If Only

If only people were a little more like cats.

 Quiet, serene, affectionate beings,

they understand the need of one-on-one comfort as well as solitude.

They totally get why you love to go outside to enjoy nature.

Cats look at you a certain way,

give you a nuzzle

or a  head bump

to show how much they love you.

There is rarely anything to forgive or apologize for

because they don’t hold grudges.

They don’t say they love you, then withhold it.

Cats don’t care how much money you have,

and all they want from you

is to be with you.

Cats don’t like when things come between you.

and they always love you for just being you.

They care when you are hurt

and they can’t imagine living their lives

without you.

  1. Jennifer, I’m so glad to hear that my daughter and I aren’t the only ones who think that cats care when you are hurt. I’ve noticed this for years, and she just brought it up the other day… You take wonderful cat pictures!

    Blessings ~ Wendy

  2. I have had cats all my life and they have personalities just like people do and will love you if you are kind to them. But don’t forget how hard it was for you to let go of your children (and your novel). Cats are very protective of their young for a handful of weeks then they lose interest. :) I’m not sure I can be like a cat.

  3. loved this! although our previous cat would have begged to differ on ‘doesn’t hold a grudge’. for her, meals and treats were highlights of her day. she wasn’t fat, but she was not finicky, and no coaxing was needed to get her to eat.
one day a friend came over and she offered our little girl a treat. but just before she could bend down to eat it, the treat was whisked away. our little girl waited patiently and sure enough, the treat was held out to her again, only to be whisked away once more.
only once more was that tolerated by our little girl, and then she walked away and didn’t wait for a fourth time. almost like, three strikes and you are out. and after that, whenever the same friend came over, our little girl cat would quietly disappear, only to come out again after she had left.

    • How funny! A cat will hold a grudge, I guess, if she has a really good reason. :) Now that you mention it, I knew a cat long ago who held a grudge against someone who kicked her. She never forgot it and used to hide whenever he was near. Who could blame her?

Thanks for visiting and taking the time to comment!
